Paul Robinson has called on Tottenham Hotspur to sign Willian from Chelsea, per Soccer Insider. Spurs have been linked with a possible swoop for the Brazil who worked under Jose Mourinho at Chelsea. The Transfer Window Podcast, to whom Duncan Castles regularly contributes, claims that the team are hopeful of signing up the 31-year-old, whose contract expires at the end of the season. And Robinson believes they need to make every effort to snap up the two-time Premier League winner.
Obviously, Spurs attempted to purchase Willian before he joined Chelsea and he even underwent a medical at the club before changing his mind and sealing a move to Stamford Bridge in 2013. Robinson stated:”I wouldn’t care about what he’s said about Spurs at the past, consider what Mourinho has said concerning Spurs in the past. “If Willian became accessible, he is a top-quality player and if there’s anyway Mourinho could convince him to come to Spurs, he would be a brilliant addition.”I think he’d fit into the squad absolutely as he is a top-class participant and you know what has gone on in the past is irrelevant.”If he plays in a Tottenham shirt, there won’t be an issue.”Mourinho said he’d never become Tottenham manager, so I am confident with a couple of wins and a couple of trophies in the cabinet, all will be forgiven.”
Willian will come in and add to the Spurs ranks and bring some genuine experience. Of course, he’s 32, and this is a break in policy from the club, who routinely try to sign players under the age of 30. But bringing in such a winner, who has won the FA Cup and the League Cup in Chelsea, while winning 69 caps for Brazil, is something of a no-brainer. He remains a key part of the Blues’ squad, with 26 appearances in all competitions and scoring five goals and registering five assists. Chelsea will want to keep him but when he fails to commit his future, Spurs should make a move. They can bring him to White Hart Lane six years after he initially slipped through their fingers.
